Tower Bells Refurbishment 2014-15

On October 8th 2014, Mark Sayers (Tower Captain) led a group from the church and community on a visit to the John Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough, where we saw our replacement Tenor Bell and witnessed the casting of our new Treble Bell.  The Vicar, Jim Perryman, was invited to say a prayer of blessing before the molten bell metal was poured into the mould.  Below is a slideshow of photos taken by a couple of the group (no captions), including a number of photos of both the events mentioned above.  For more details of the visit, see the November 2014 edition of the Leek Wootton Link - click here to download this edition.

The Final Ringing

See these Youtube videos to enjoy highlights of the final evening of the Tower Bells before they were taken away for refurbishment.  The ancient Tenor Bell, which dates from around 1360, now enters semi-retirement, chiming as the clock bell but swinging no more!

Below are 'timeshift' videos of the works as the bells were removed (about 32x speed - each lasting a few minutes).  Sadly, one camera failed to work so we can't fully show the crane in action, but you can see this further below in the videos of when the bells were returned and rehung.

THE BELLS ARE BACK!

We are delighted that the bells were safely re-installed in the tower and are now ringing joyfully and tunefully each week.  On Sunday 6th September 2015, the Bishop of Coventry joined us for a very special afternoon of celebration, during which he dedicated our new Treble, and prayed for God's blessing and consecration of the whole work of the tower - bells and bellringers.  He rang the new Treble - in a more orthodox manner to that of David Cameron (see above - he was invited to join us too but was unable to come) and you can hear the sound this by clicking below.
